The northern peninsula would be converted as the best investment destination in Sri Lanka, said Chairman Chamber of Commerce Yalpanam, K. Vignesh.
He said the Northern Provincial Council along with government body’s support would be sought for this and he expects the diaspora to play a major role in this. He made these comments at the 13th edition of the Jaffna International Trade Fair which was successfully concluded in Jaffna on Sunday.
He said that the air link connecting Jaffna with Chennai, the proposed Indian ferry service between Kankesanturai and Cochin too will add value to the North as an investment destination specially among Indian investors. He said since the current air service only allows limited luggage it would be a good idea to launch an air cargo operation which will have a good business.
He said that the JITF which commanded during the war period has played a key role in the North East economic landscape. The event was a multi-trade affair featuring industries, products and services in the Agriculture, Hospitality, Education, Food, Machinery, Construction, Consumer, Electronics, Power, Textile, IT and Real estate sectors.
Government Agent, Jaffna Siva Palasunthan said that the peninsula has abundant talent and they currently have over 1,000 employable graduates. “We are looking to create employment for them.”
