Nepali Travel agents arrive to promote Sri Lanka

A 30-member team of leading travel agents from Nepal are arriving in Colombo today (15) to promote Sri Lankan Leisure, Mice, Adventure and Pilgrimage travel to Nepal.

The delegation is sponsored by the national tourism board of Nepal and the arriving delegates are all members of the Nepal Association of Tour & Travel Agents (NATAS).

All ground arrangements including tours and business sessions in Sri Lanka are handled by well-known NKAR Travels & Tours Pvt Ltd.

“In the light of Sri Lankan Airlines operating four return flights a week from Colombo to Kathmandu this would be a great opportunity to revive the travel industry once again and support Sri Lankan airlines as well,” said Chairman, NKAR Travels, Nilmin Nanayakkara.

“We understand that Nepal is eager to invite a delegation from Sri Lanka to meet their counterparts in Kathmandu as well to promote tourist traffic from Nepal to Sri Lanka.”

SLIIT’s ‘ROBOFEST 2021’ concludes with multi-talented participants

SLIIT’s annual yearly robotics competition ‘ROBOFEST 2021’, for aspiring young engineers from schools and universities, concluded on a successful note recently with the multi-talented participants showcasing their innovation and the future of robotics.

Organized by SLIIT’s Faculty of Engineering, this year’s competition was held for the 11th year with Team Newwera, from the University of Moratuwa triumphant in the University category and received prizes in money.

The 1st Runner-up was Team Circuit Breakers, also from the University of Moratuwa and Team cyberClan, from the University of Peradeniya was placed as 2nd Runner-up. The consolation prize was bestowed on Team Aura from the University of Moratuwa.

Tokyo Cement lays foundation for additional 1 mn MT manufacturing expansion

The Management of Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) PLC recently laid the foundation for a factory expansion project in Trincomalee, to increase its manufacturing capacity by a further 1 million Metric Tons.

The project scheduled to be completed by early 2023 will bring Tokyo Cement Group’s total installed capacity to 4 million MT, firmly establishing the Company’s position as the largest manufacturer of cement in the country.

The new expansion project at the Tokyo Cement Factory in Trincomalee reflects the Company’s readiness to cater to the future growth in demand of the local construction industry.

With the 18-month expansion plan Tokyo Cement will increase the production of TOKYO SUPER, NIPPON CEMENT and NIPPON CEMENT PRO, market leading brands of Ordinary Portland and Blended Hydraulic Cements, using state-of-the-art technology.

This will significantly enhance local value creation; with the addition of more direct and indirect employment opportunities, compounded by the thousands of ancillary product and service suppliers supported through local cement manufacturing, setting off a ripple effect of economic benefits for the country.
